Sail Out

This EP is perfect and I’m so happy to have new music to listen to in the car. My favorite is definitely Stay Ready (What A Life). Even though there are only 7 tracks and technically only 4 new tracks, I’m not disappointed because I’m just excited for the album. There are not really that many artists I wholeheartedly support but I love her soooo much like I think her talent is just out of this world. Her music is so simple and sweet and honest. I’ll always be a fan.

Yours Truly

I was never really a fan of Ariana Grande but I do remember watching her cover songs that she uploaded onto her Youtube channel and even back then her voice was not amateur. I wouldn’t say I was excited and anticipating the release of her debut album but when it came out I definitely wanted to check it out because I really liked The Way so I wanted to see what the other tracks would sound like.

And oh my goodness, let me just say this whole album is perfection. I’ve had every song stuck in my head at some point. My favorites are hands down Honeymoon Avenue, which is the first track, and then Almost Is Never Enough feat. Nathan Sykes who I did not even know was one of the guys from The Wanted. Omg words cannot describe how much I love Honeymoon Avenue because everything about it is so complete to me. From the arrangement to the strings to the range in her vocals, even the lyrics – the whole song is just a masterpiece really. I honestly love every track though. Not one that I would skip.

I don’t know what it is but the entire album sounds so…magical, for lack of better words. Like, I actually feel as if I’m in Disneyland or something. I know that’s a bizarre description but every song is so sweet and wholesome and her voice is so magical it just transports me to another world. She has gained herself a new fan.

She is such a sweetie.

Ariana Grande might just be my new fave pop princess. Sorry, Demi. Still love you though.

Born Sinner

I’ve been soooo psyched about J. Cole’s new album. I’ve been awaiting it ever since I heard Power Trip. I really wish I had the patience to wait until the album was released to listen to it in all its glory but I just couldn’t help myself so I’ve been listening to all 16 tracks minus the bonuses ever since the whole album was leaked and J. Cole himself put the album up for streaming. I went to Walmart this morning to get craft wire for arts & crafts day with my homies today and also to grab some crackers for my salmon dip, and I was gonna stop by Target to pick up a physical copy but I was too lazy so I figured I’ll just go tomorrow or something. I’m just streaming it on Spotify for the time being. Overall I’m really happy about it because I think it’s a huge improvement from Sideline Story. Although I thought that was a good album too, I think I tried too hard to like it because I felt like I should since the lyrical content was great, but there were so many tracks that sounded so alike that they were hardly distinguishable from one another. I couldn’t really figure out why he came off so boring sometimes until I read some comments on some music blogs where people said he’s boring because his flow is literally the same in every song and then I realized that was right. I think that’s still evident on this album even though I wholeheartedly like it a lot more. The only track that really stands out to me flow wise is the Ain’t That Some Shit interlude where his flow is significantly different. Other than that, other standout tracks for me are Let Nas Down because I wasn’t aware of the story behind it prior to hearing it, and Forbidden Fruit even though I really didn’t like it at first and even though it is like the biggest tease to feature Kendrick Lamar on a track and not even let him have a verse. Kudos for using a ATCQ sample on the track though. I also really like Born Sinner; what a great track to close the album with. Love the TLC feature on Crooked Smile. Overall I really enjoy the album as a whole and there isn’t a single track that I skip over . This hasn’t been the case since I’ve listened to Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix by Phoenix or Kendrick’s GKMC. I really appreciate albums like these because there’s so much substance and fillers are nonexistent. I fucking hate fillers. Anyway, I think a huge aspect of this album being so good and so much better is due to the fact that J. Cole had more creative control this time around, and it’s a great thing he did because the product is magnificent. Also have to add that his hook game is crazy. Bravo, Jermaine!! People had doubts following Sideline Story but hopefully you proved them wrong with this record.

I enjoyed Born Sinner so much more than Yeezus, although I’ve yet to finish listening. Apparently it’s supposed to be some kind of polarizing, classic record so I should learn to enjoy it. But for now I’m gonna continue indulging in Born Sinner and I’m about to listen to the bonuses for the first time, except for Sparks Will Fly which I listened to like yesterday but only because it showed up on my Tumblr dash. I love it especially since Jhene Aiko is on the hook and I freaking love her. ANYHOO this is getting too long and nobody even reads this lol. So yeah I’m just gonna go play some plants vs. zombies or something and continue bumping this album until it gets old, which doesn’t seem likely anytime soon. I’m really happy and excited to have a new album that I actually enjoy and does not disappoint because I’ve recently been very disappointed by a several of my favorite artists whose albums I was very much anticipating but ended up sucking. DEMI LOVATO I’M TALKING TO YOU.

Power Trip

I have a habit of searching up acoustic versions of rap songs that I’m into so that’s what I did, and this one was definitely my fave:

So so good. Okay sometimes rap songs just aren’t meant to be sung with a guitar but this song works and I pretty much liked all the acoustic/piano covers I came across. I love how people can be so creative with their arrangements. While we’re on that note, Poetic Justice is also really good in acoustic form.

Love her voice and the arrangement.

If anyone ever serenades me with this song in acoustic form, rap it, or even burp it, I will marry them on the spot.

New Albums I’m Counting Down For

  • Demi Lovato – I feel like it wasn’t even that long ago that Unbroken was released and it was awesome and it’s STILL awesome and I still jam to it all the time, and now she’s already releasing her 4th studio album with 13 brand new tracks (14 on the Target edition!!). I couldn’t be more excited! May 14!!!

  • Vampire Weekend – I don’t like their newest single. I don’t even know what it’s called but it’s on the radio all the time when I’m going to school in the morning. But I’m still hopeful for the rest of the tracks because I love them and they’re my favorite go-to feel-good band. I wasn’t too crazy about Contra, but their self titled album was one of my faves. Also May 14!!

Modern Vampires of the City

  • Phoenix – I’ve only listened to Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix which I raved about in an earlier post because it’s one of the only albums that I can genuinely enjoy from beginning to finish without skipping any tracks. Really really love Entertainment so definitely not doubting that the rest of the album will be just as satisfying. Just 2 more days!!!

  • Daft Punk – I haven’t listened to them in a long time and I think the only time I was really into them was late middle school to early high school, but I recently got really into electronic music again (I acquired Crystal Castles’ entire discography) so I’m super excited upon seeing all this hype and audio posts of Daft Punk’s new album on my Tumblr dash. May 21!!

Random Access Memories

ImageI first heard Entertainment on the radio last month and it easily got stuck in my head, especially the guitar line which is for some reason so addicting to listen to. I catch myself humming it all the time, and it just makes me hum louder. I had no idea who the track was by, but I knew it was genius and I needed to find out ASAP so I Shazamed it one morning when I was in my car waiting for the bus to come.

I had heard of Phoenix before, but never got around to checking them out. After finding out they were behind this awesome tune I knew I had to make time to listen to more of their stuff, so I checked out their most recent album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. At first none of the tracks particularly stood out to me, but after listening to it for about the fourth or the fifth time I realized that was because all the tracks are equally great! I rarely can ever listen to an entire album from beginning to end without skipping a track here and there, but there are absolutely no fillers in this one. I honestly cannot pick a favorite (which is pretty shocking considering how there is always that one track on every album that my ear especially favors and then I proceed to listen to it on repeat for at least the next three weeks of my life, inadvertently annoying everyone who has to live with me). Each track is an epic anthem of its own. Lisztomania always puts me in a good mood, and really sets the tone for the rest of the album. Love Like A Sunset is about seven minutes long of mostly instrumental, which is something I would probably skip halfway on any other album, but not this one. The whole album makes me feel really good, and it’s been my go-to playlist on my iTunes pretty much for the past month or so. Love it so much and can’t wait for Bankrupt! to be released on April 22!!
